Australian passports

Whether you are renewing your passport or applying for the first time, you will need to prepare an application form and submit it in person at the Australian High Commission.

Application instructions

1. Complete your application form online

Fill out your application form online at the Australian Passport Office website.

Visit the Australian Passports Office website. In order to complete your application form, you will need to create an account. Once completed, you will need to print the application form.

2. Sign and date your application form

Make sure you have signed the relevant sections of the application form. Signatures are only valid for six months. The High Commission cannot witness your signature.

3. Obtain two passport photos

Be sure to check the photo specifications as poor quality photos are the most common reason an application cannot be accepted.

The High Commission receives a significant number of applications with poor quality photographs or photographs that have been electronically altered. This leads to applications being rejected and delays in issuing the passport.

Photos must be taken in the last six months.

4. Prepare your documentation.

Review the Required Documents that need to accompany your application form and go through the checklist to avoid common errors. Double check the requirements for name changes, translation of foreign documents and guarantors.

5. Lodge your application in person.

All adult applications must be lodged in person.

For child applications, one parent must lodge the application in person. It does not matter whether the lodging person is an Australian citizen.

Children aged 16 and 17 years old must attend the interview, together with one parent.

Children aged 15 years and younger are not required to attend the interview.

Further information, including Frequently Asked Questions is available on the Australian Passports Office website.
